humble pie a la mode

Fake humility is a lovely stranglehold.
She’ll pull you onto the dance floor,
whispering “you only want attention”
and smile sweetly as she squeezes,
straightjackets,
silences,
shames.
Humility,
the real thing,
the real thing,
grins and grooves
to unforced rhythms,
just giddy with the thrill
of pouring out her heart
like a box full of crayons
like a box full of crayons
She is happy,
knows it,
and claps her hands
~a dancing, barefoot spirit.
~a dancing, barefoot spirit.
Fake humility rolls
her perfectly practiced eyes
her perfectly practiced eyes
and carefully measures out accusation
“Who says you’re qualified?”
“Who says you’re doing it right?”
“Who says you’re (insert truth and twist) enough?”
I wonder how much beauty goes unsung
unshared
unborn
because of her polite,
vicious
lies.
vicious
lies.
I want real humility
…to dip and twirl and
sink and swoop and
leap and laugh and
love out loud
with pure raw joy
pulsing through every creative atom
in my being,
in my being,
to hurl my heart into the universe
and watch in wonder
as the colors splash and spatter.
as the colors splash and spatter.
Fake humility tightens her lips and stabs
“who in the hell to you think you are?”
Real humility drapes a protective arm
around my shoulder
and raises my chin,
and raises my chin,
nudging me to see the affirming twinkle
in the eyes of Love
and I dash back
to the unfinished business
of being
simply
me.

Jennifer, have you read Gerard Kelly's work?? (not the actor that just recently passed away)
He authored a book titled "Spoken Worship". Your writing reminds me of him.
Are you working on your book?? 🙂
Oh, I can't tell you how much I loved this. So very very true.
For the book my friend. This raw and real and I just want to kick butt right along with Ms dancing humility 🙂
this may well be my favourite of your posts yet.

You made me tear up again! This is so clearly said in your beautiful words. I think each of us have probably had that evil sister dancing beside us at one time or another. You have lifted my chin many times Jen with your words of the heart. I hope you feel my arm around your shoulder friend, because it is there ready to dance up a jig of joy with you.

this is something I would like to print and read from time to time … would that be okay?
it leaves me
wordless
Jen you have touched my heart, and I see by the replies, many others as well. You are such a gift and structure with your words and thoughts. Much blessings and hugs to you dear one.
wow! so true. even love the title "humble pie a la mode".
As always, so perfectly put. my husband & I were just talking about this! real humility leads to freedom and security, false humility is just the opposite. It's such an ellusive idea, concept. So well put. i want the real thing too!

These lines send ripples like a stone thrown in a still idyllic pond.
Hi there Jennifer, what a lovely words you put into my space…hope I'm not the fake barefooted soul you had in mind….gues not, figure of speaking.
But wow a true beauty it is in words and art form.
God Bless my lady.
Hugs Dagmar
oh ps thank you for your sweet and soft words lately on my blog. 😉
I love how you describe real humility. Absolutely love it. You have much wisdom, my friend.
First of all- love your collage! you have such a way with design and color. My favorite passage of this writing was:
"to hurl my heart into the universe
and watch in wonder
as the colors splash and spatter."
You are such a beautiful soul.
Your words and art are both so lovely. Color me satisfied! I'm so glad I met you on Relyn's site!
~hugs~
